Coconut Almond Bars & Classic Yellow Birthday Cake

Did you miss last month’s recipes? Now’s your chance to catch up. Not only did I make myself a birthday (apparently you aren’t supposed to make your own birthday cake, but who cares!), but I also make something that incorporates both coconut flakes and almonds (two things my boyfriend hates but managed to love this time around). Happy birthday to you! Happy birthday to you! This case is the ultimate classic–yellow cake with chocolate frosting. No fancy gimmicks here!

From the Kitchen Floor

Ever forget to add an ingredient? Ever forget to add an ingredient and remember right before you stick the pan in the oven? That was me with the classic yellow birthday cake. After I’d prepared the pan and poured in the batter, I realized I’d neglected to pour in the vanilla. Because the pan was lined with parchment paper, it was a little, er, difficult to stir in, but as the saying goes: better late than never! Crisis averted!
